We Are Ready To Meet You!
The second half of our summer began with Sissy's fourth birthday. She was born in the year of the last summer Olympics and was a very unhappy little baby for the first several months of her life. It has been so fun to see how she has come from one Olympics to the next from a colicky little baby who cried all the time, to a little girl, full of sweetness, who fills our lives with sunshine.
Here was her birthday breakfast.
Here is one of her many birthday smiles.
Her birthday cake. She originally wanted strawberry shortcake but when she found out it looked nothing like a birthday cake she came up with chocolate cake with strawberries on top!
Here is the dress she picked out to wear to Chuck E. Cheeses.
Some of her favorite birthday gifts.
We left at 8:00 in evening so it was a long, long night!
The next morning we hit up the hotel brunch!
And spent sometime playing in the hotel lobby or the jungle as the girls call it.
A little swim....have I mentioned how much I love life jackets?
Guadalajara for lunch! Mommy's favorite.
Naptime! Have I mentioned how much I love blackout curtains?
The girls got to try Bodo's for the first time. They were fans!
Mommy and Daddy had a lovely evening at Mas. If God didn't love us there wouldn't be potatas bravas in the world.
When we go home it was time for the Olympics to begin. I grew up watching the Olympics and I was so excited that this time my children were old enough to enjoy them with me. Excited enough that I made these shirts with my bare hands and I am not a crafty lady.
Excited enough that I let my four and five year old stay up until midnight for the Opening Ceremonies and I am not even close to being that laid back especially when it come to my children's bedtimes.
And enjoy it they did! We had a "spend over" with their cousin Caroline on the night of the gymnastics all-around competition. Daddy even pulled out the rickety old hide-a-bed for the occasion.
The next morning they put on a little all-around of their own.
And then as the Olympics were coming to an end the sicknesses came. One after another each child dropped first to a stomach virus and then to a nasty cold.
It was a sad way to spend the last days of summer but they were troopers....most of the time.
Even in the midst of the sickness a house full of girls needs to keep up the beauty regimens, right? Afton got a back to school haircut. Her only instructions for the stylist were to keep her hair long enough that she could wear braids to school this year. She loved every minute of it!
Thanks to some generous friends, Mommy got the treat of a pre-baby pedicure. Yep, this is what a pedicure looks like at nine months pregnant. Glamourous, no? But just like Afton, I enjoyed every minute of it.
And now we wait for baby Winnie to come and take her place in our family and make it complete.
Come quickly, Baby Winnie! We are ready to meet you.
